Keep water out of the wall entirely
Exterior waterproofing addresses the problem from the outside. The foundation is excavated down to the footing, the wall is cleaned and sealed with a waterproof membrane, and a footing drain in gravel carries groundwater away before it can build pressure against the wall. It's a bigger job than an interior system, but for the right wall it tackles water before it ever gets in.
